Encoder Data Port IP and MAC addresses

As the udp multicast output of the encoder data port is (or should be) treated by the switch in compliance with RFC the actual assigned IP address of the data port is not relevant.  However it is best practice to assign the static IP address of this data port to be in the logical subnet of the endpoint devices as in some implementations the Switch or router may impose rules preventing proper operation.

This also applies to the MAC address of the encoder data port, best practice with comprehensively configured Switches / Networks indicates that the MAC must be exclusive and legal.  In most case the ex factory configuration is compliant however if the encoder has been field upgraded then the upgrade image *may* carry an illegal mac address.

Recommendation: In sites where the IP address assignments are not managed by TeleDelta the encoder data port IP address should be provided by the System designer / IT department.

STB Data Port IP and MAC addresses

In the TeleDelta systems the assignment of the IP address of the STB depends on the topology of the base systems.  Refer below for more detail.

TeleDelta Conductor IPTV Systems – IP address
STB IP is set by the DHCP server.  The DHCP server is integrated into the Conductor Middleware and is configured pre-delivery to an IP range to suit the network.

In systems that are sharing bandwidth with other non IPTV applications or users TeleDelta order configuration and confirmation engineering needs to know the IP range suitable and available and if the Conductor DHCP is to be disabled. When this is required, (i.e. in a custom designed system,) the DHCP role can be hosted external to Conductor  – refer to the TeleDelta system designer for more information on the type of custom configuration.

TeleDelta Livestream  Systems – IP address
STB IP can be set static or by a DHCP server.  In systems that are sharing bandwidth with other non IPTV applications or users and a static IP is required the TeleDelta order configuration and confirmation engineering needs to know the IP range suitable and available.
